“We would like to thank you for the great job you did on our exhibition, The Journey to Inclusion. We really enjoyed working with you. You really worked hard to make our exhibition accessible."

The History Group, Bristol and Gloucestershire People First Group.

We designed the bus ticket style identity for the exhibition, used on all promotional materials and invites.

As a group of people with learning difficulties, it is not always easy for us to understand what people are telling us, but you were great to work with and not patronising.” We were really proud of our exhibition. Thank you again.

The Journey to Inclusion

An exhibition for People First, a group of people with learning difficulties.

The exhibition explores the barriers many people with learning difficulties have experienced in their lives.

The focal point of the exhibition is a 10m long timeline pinpointing key moments in history and how they affected people with learning difficulties. The exhibition explores the evolution in attitudes towards disability.

It begins in the time of ‘Bedlam’ a ‘lunatic asylum’ where people with learning difficulties, mental health issues and disabled people were all locked up together. The timeline continues to the present day, where people with learning difficulties are able to plan services that affect them jointly with members of the local authority.

“The display aims to be challenging and informative with a wealth of personal memories and anecdotes showing visitors what is means to have learning difficulties in the 21st century”.
