Smith and Jones were chosen by Torbay Coast and Countryside Trust to develop visitor attraction improvements at Cockington Country Park in Devon.
Like many of our country park interpretation projects our response spanned internal and external areas across the park. This project crucially involved developing interpretation that visually complemented the historic park estate – a fine balancing act.
The focus for our work was the development of a brand new visitor centre in The Linhay, an old Devon agricultural building that had been transformed by architects into a modern welcoming space.
Smith and Jones developed a visitor centre concept that gave visitors an understanding of the history of the park and village, one of the most photographed in Devon. To do this we conducted extensive research sessions, with locals, bringing out some unique stories about the park, which visitors today find fascinating.
We worked on an exhibition design and build basis, successfully designing, manufacturing and installing every element of the project.
