Smith and Jones help museums across the country, right at the start of their redevelopment journey. We conduct options appraisal studies and museum visioning exercises, often with other consultants, such as business advisers and architects.
Often the museums we work with are owned by local councils or trusts who want to ensure future sustainability for their museum, often creating a multi use concept including events and community spaces and room hire, together with an improvement in the visitor experience.
This work might involve rationalising a museum object collection to create a more concise and powerful story, reworking buildings and landscapes to help with visitor flow, or modernising buildings to create the right conditions for museum objects.
Our museum concept and visioning work often forms part of public and community consultation and ultimately leads to a development phase funding to explore the concepts further and in more detail for a Stage 2 Heritage Fund application.
