Smith and Jones are visitor centre designers working with organisations, companies and councils across the UK to conceive, design, develop and install the most inspirational visitor centre experiences.
Our process starts with understanding you and your unique story, with the development of an interpretive framework which sets out the concept long before any design work takes place. This sets out the structure and stories to a visitor centre design, and helps our clients to understand and approve the scope of the project and visualise the visitor experience.
We then develop visitor centre designs considering visitor impressions and flow, how a story is released in stages, how we work with objects or other heritage features.
Smith and Jones were the visitor centre designers for the Power House visitor centre at the Underfall Yard in Bristol. This was as part of a wider interpretation and redevelopment project and featured many complex interactive exhibits.
We worked as visitor centre designers for Trinity House, to design and install a brand new visitor centre concept at the Lizard Lighthouse in Cornwall. This major redevelopment at the site completely refreshed the visitor experience and was funded by the Heritage Fund.
